We're hosting a new edition of The Scienice Behind Technology, an event for those interested in understanding the science that makes novel technologies work.
This time they have asked Arnau to describe (to the profane!!) the basics of how a quantum computer works; focusing in comparing it to standard classical computers. They have also asked him to explain examples of algorithms that are exponentially complex in a classical computer, but that become polynomial in a quantum computer, for example, those used in cryptography. The super-publicized Google quantum computer (D-WAVE) will also be discussed, as well as the realistic immediate future for quantum computing.
